Zurisaday Robbins Briz is a native of Mexico living in Galveston since the age of 10. She has lived through the various transformations of the island and has cultivated extensive grassroots relationships within the faith based and non-profit network of Galveston County. Zuri has lived and worked in Galveston for most of her life and has made it her homestead along with her husband and their two adult children. Her youngest daughter currently attends American University in Washington D.C on a full ride scholarship.
She is a graduate of Ball High School, and is currently culminating her Bachelor of Science in Behavioral Science at the University of Of Houston Clear Lake where she hopes to continue to pursue her Master’s degree on Cross Cultural and Global Studies. Her professional career in the Galveston County area involves spearheading and collaborating through various community initiatives, providing leadership, strategic vision and community oversight advocating for equitable access and inclusiveness for underserved populations. She, along with her daughter have founded Dreamers Thrive, a developing non-profit in support of Latino high school students and their families achieve college readiness and success in Galveston County.
Among one of her professional accomplishments, was her six-year role as a Prevention
Specialist and Community Parent Educator with Family Service Center of Galveston County. Within this role, she successfully spearheaded the implementation of an evidence based curricula. This initiative supported the needs of over 400 families through collaborative early childhood psychoeducational programming and mental health prevention services in Galveston County. Prior to joining the Galveston- Houston Immigrant Representation project, she served as Clinical Research Coordinator at the Center for Violence Prevention at the University of Texas Medical Branch. She is also a certified Medical Translator by the University of Houston.
Her community efforts include her recent appointment to the City of Galveston Families, Children and Youth Board, former board member to The Galveston Independent School District Educational Foundation, currently serving as a proud member on the following state and local organizations: Partners Resource Network , Vision Galveston and Family Service Center of Galveston County. She is committed to serving the Hispanic community through both her
professional and leadership roles in the Galveston community. Her multifaceted advocacy efforts and passion working in academia, community and across political spectrums have garnered her as a social justice steward of the Galveston community. She is committed to the awareness and advocacy of children with special needs, college readiness, immigration services, civic engagement, community development and mental health access for the
Hispanic/Latino community.
In her spare time she enjoys learning, music, cooking, art exhibits and local cultural festivals. She is an avid world traveler and enjoys sharing traveling experiences with both of her children. She most recently undertook a mother and daughter summer trip to Istanbul and Egypt.
